Car Parking at the Ground 13 years 6 months ago #1

Anyone else getting fed up trying to park at the ground? The training ground was like a bog over Christmas and as far as I could see there was still space at the Lostock end when I was told I couldn’t drive down there. Not happy about being told I can’t park there for any apparent reason. As we are out of town we need to drive and its something the club needs to look at especially if, as hoped, gates keep rising. :(

I think some of the problem is the wet weather, as the Lostock end car park tends to flood!! We could spend money on sorting it out, but then we'd probably have to cut the wage budget?!

At least we aren't paying to park at the ground like they do over the canal!!!

I don't think parking on the grass is the best alternative though. It would be better to park along one side of the access road surely?

Mr Lowe (aka The Albion Tea Hut)

As you don't come - people can park in your space! We can't stop it from raining, we're not going to spend cash we haven't got so we're knackered.

Oh, and if my girls find that you're using their title in disguise - they'll kick your shins!! ;)

I can assure you that WHS and the Albion Tea Hut are not one and the same. My spelling is much better to start with and I attend the odd match.

It appears to me if enough so called supporters came to help sort out the car park, it could be done for very little cost, other than everyone's time.Where are those that are moaning. We do have barrows, spades and plenty of chippings, so come on give us your time!

Blimey! No wonder no-one starts any debate on this site. I was only asking if the car park situation could be improved. Wasn’t counting on a grilling for doing it. ??? ??? ??? ???

The issue is more to do with the fact that it is something we can do very little about.

Unless anyone has any constructive suggestions?!

I'd just like to point out that my name is Chris Lowe and I don't mind who knows it. I could probably think of a pseudonym if other Witton fans would prefer. I don't care too much about the car park since I only come to a few games each year but I'll be there Saturday so if you are going to fill in any holes could you do it before then?

Th Problem with the gravel currently piled up is that it requires a binding agent, in the case it is used for, bitumen tar. You could mix it with limestone dust, and use a very large vibrating roller to compact it.

If its not combined with a binding agent you end up with a marbles effect where nothing can move on it with out sinking.

There is no cheap solution to the car park, the loose gravel would have to be mechanically scraped to one side and mixed with a type 1 MOT stone forming a camber to allow water to naturally drain away, then topped with a 25mm dressing of limestone dust and beaten to a pulp with aforementioned roller, it would look lovely, be dry underfoot and then attract every joyrider in the ValeRoyal area to come and rip it up. :P

grazzer, it will need drainage under the carpark first, or else any surface
work would be a waste of money. herring bone ?.

short term solution is hire wellies out on a match to match basis , with all moneys
going to the team wages.

Yes you are right, but that depends on the camber gradient, the permiability of the surface and any perimeter drainage and gulley placings to catch and remove run off . . . aaargh. . . .sod this. . . . I've retired from groundwork :)

:o Perhaps we coulds operate a park and piggy back service? :o
