No Pseudonyms or posts from me for a while, no BS or otherwise, the following conversation (lifted by me without permission - Sorry Brian)
The truth will out.
Happy Birthday Brian Pritchard
Brian Pritchard Thanks mike, just waking up and the postman doesn't come till dinner, but thanks for that green and white scarf you sent me yesterday.
Looking forward to the things I won't get today......like a birthday card from anyone whose name rhymes with wedge.
No heads of companies giving you a present weeks ago to then take it off you just as you go to use it.
A calculator that allows you to work out how much over your budget you are thanks to A N OTHER negotiating everyone's pay.
A book showing me that the years of being in charge were a failure and a 55% win ratio is nothing to write home about, but most of all a card that is called The Truth and Spin of a non league football club, I know it,others should. Mines a pint of bitter mate
THIS CLUB SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THE WAY IT HAS TREATED A CLUB STALWART AND LEGEND AND SOMEBODY WHO HAS GIVEN HIS LIFE, HEALTH AND THAT OF HIS FAMILY FOR OUR BENEFIT AND THE GREATER GOOD.
Absolutely agree Chad. A real sorry state of affairs and I fear that this episode has led to Pritch completely disassociating himself with the club in the future which is sad. I really feel that the board have a lot of questions to answer given the state of the club at the moment, as incidents are no longer isolated and there are now a catalogue of things that have gone wrong in recent seasons which see us in our current position. I may get shouted down as I am no longer able to attend games every week (2 young children see to that although I have done 25 years service and do care deeply about the club!) but I don't feel that the board should be untouchable and it's healthy to ask questions whether it's on here or "in the bar after the game".
We seem to have huge issues with both recruitment and then letting people go. Firstly, addressing the recruitment side of things, we had a manager in place that had been courted by the club and was ready to go (some players had already signed) yet was 'interviewed' and then told his services weren't needed (this is the very shortened version of events by the way). How can that be?! The job was given to a manager that won 5 games last season! Needless to say, the way Mr Witton has been treated is nothing short of disgraceful and I hope that those responsible are ashamed. Regardless of whether it was Pritch or somebody else entirely, how can the job effectively be given to somebody then taken away and given to a weaker candidate without explanation? It doesn't stack up. Nothing against Carl but his credentials do not stack up when compared to Pritch!
At the other end of the scale, we seem to have great difficulty in conducting the 'sacking' process with any dignity or class. Yes Sully resigned (did he really have any other choice?) but most knew that he was going to be sacked anyway and everybody knew Dundas was going before he did. Why and how are these confidential board room discussions and decisions being leaked into the public domain? Too much information is being leaked out to the fan base which makes us look very unprofessional and causes issues throughout the club. I'm all for transparency and being open with the fans but this uncontrollable leak of info needs to stop before it causes more damage.
Then finally I read that we nearly signed Tuck back! According to a post on here, Carl made the decision not to sign him on - does that mean that the board had ratified the signing? I have nothing against Tuck on a personal basis but I truly believe that we are still feeling the effects of the fallout that begin with Twittergate and everything that went with it. I don't think we've recovered as a club and to even consider signing him back on would I'm sure have seen attendances reduce further which we can ill afford.
I could write for hours about the whole debacle with Pritch but his posting on Facebook sums it up well enough. As a club, if we want to move forward, some fundamental things will need to change and whilst I appreciate there isn't a large queue of people wanting to take on the Chairman's role at our club, that doesn't make those in power unquestionable. Direction from across the whole fan base is crucial and with people now voting with their feet, issues need to be addressed before it is too late.
And before anybody asks, I don't have all of the answers!
Filling in some of the blanks, but not all, from what i am aware Pritch was actively courted by the chaiman during the tenure of 2 previous managers.
Two weeks into the current season he told Mark he was ready to come back. At that point we had a manager in place, so nothing could happen.
Most of you will have seen Pritch at games this season, doing his homework.
Results were average, not terrible - but, and its a big BUT (kinda like Brian's!), the off-field discipline was a major issue, and there was a split developing in the dressing room.
I was in September told by a person no longer associated with the football club that Pritch was lined up to replace Scott once results provided that opportunity.
At FC United the chairman was heard criticising Scott Dundas, and as Scott alluded to when leaving the club, everybody knew the axe was about to fall, and that Pritch was lined up to be the new manager.
We lost the following game, and Scott was immediately releived of his position.
Pritch was offered the job and accepted it. However, his work pattern was plotted up to the Lancaster home game - hence the delay in appointing a manager.
He also had his personal situation to resolve, as his partner was not sure he should return to football. The chairman met up with her and Brian to convince her that everything would be ok. She accepted Pritch returning to the club at the end of this meeting.
Sheenz was brought back to the club by Pritch, and Powell was brought in as his new captain. Nige Deeley had agreed to return as a coach. Dave Andrew had also been contacted.
As the Lancaster game approached - the game which was due to be Pritch's return to Witton - Brian was asked to come in and meet the board to finalise his appointment. The night before the meeting he suddenly reaslised that this was to be an 'interview', for a position which he had been made to believe was already his...which he had moved work around to accomodate, and which he had had to struggle to convince his partner that their relationship would not suffer by his return to Witton (as it transpires, she actually booked the Saturday off work so she could be at the Lancaster game, such was her belief that Pritch would be in the dugout).
I am told that Carl didn't actually apply for the job, and at the time of Pritch's interview wasn't even in the frame. He was apparoached by a Witton board member after Pritch's interview, came to watch Witton on the Saturday and was interviewed on the Sunday, and appointed on the Tuesday. There is no wonder he has been shocked by the state of things at the club currently....unlike Pritch he was coming in cold.
Should Mark have given the job to Pritch without going through due process? I suppose that's a question for the next board meeting and/or AGM? He has done it before though - Gary Finley was appointed to replace Nige without an interview process, Pritch was previously appointed without an interview process.
Were the board aware Pritch had been given the job? If they were, then they actively voted against their chairman - which must be a huge concern? If they weren't, then why is Mark making appointments he doesn't carry the authority to?
It is a very strange turn of events.
The upshot is that Carl is our manager, and he should be supported whilst he holds that position - it certainly isn't his fault that he has a job which Pritch has already been given.
The bigger issue here, and the saddest thing to come out of this whole mess, is that Brian Pritchard (record appearance holder, our most successful manager since Stan) is now lost to the Club he served with such distinction for almost 2 decades. He claims he will never set foot inside Wincham Park ever again, that he wants all reference to him removed from the stadium, the museum, the match day programme etc, and that he no longer views Witton as 'his club'.
Whatever your thoughts on Pritch, that should never have been allowed to happen.
Happy Birthday Brian.Fully understand the hurt you are feeling and rightly so at the disgraceful events that have transpired ,
Please please don,t disassociate yourself from the club, you know you are revered by the vast majority of supporters and rightly so
You are a big man at this club,a position earned through years of service which the supporters know only too well.
it takes a BIG MAN TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK AND YOU ARE A BIG MAN!!
In the meantime lets all get behind Carl and offer him any help we can give him and the team.
really is a sorry state of affairs at the moment and if it's true i wonder if the board are trying to take us under.as for pritch i cant believe the club as treated him this way.MR HARRIS please can we have a fans forum arranged so you and the board can explain all your actions over the last few weeks.
Who was it that went and asked Carl to apply? It doesn't sound like it was Mark. I am pretty sure Carl wasn't aware of the fact that his job had already been offered to Pritch. How must he feel now? It is an embarrassing shambles and the record needs putting straight sooner rather than later.
A lot of frustrated souls on this website at present. I think that the people who are running the show may ( or may not ) have Witton at heart but sadly not in their blood. How I envy the clubs who are run by the fans and how proud it must make them to be associated.

At last, someone who understands what is happening and what true WITTONER'S need to do, bring on the revolution !
